Working on a rocking horse

Ideally life in the Community is like being part of an extended family where all live and work together and are totally self supporting.

Residents, known as Companions, each have their own fully furnished bedroom with tv, self contained shower, hand basin and w.c. There are two lounges and a community dining room.

Meals, clothing, and toiletries are provided plus £32 per week pocket money and a further £5 per week is put aside for if a Companion chooses to leave.

After 13 weeks in the Community, Companions can take a long weekend break and after a further 13 weeks a weeks holiday. For both, extra allowances are given.

Of course all the Companions in the Community have to do voluntary work, as directed, for up to 40 hours per week. This work can be in the shop, warehouse, the delivery vans, the woodworking, upholstery or electrical workshop. Other areas where Companions work include the kitchen, the communal rooms of the house and the gardens.

Some funds are put aside so that from time to time groups of Companions can enjoy days out, for example ten pin bowling, air shows or concerts.

As detailed on the home page there are a number of basic rules and should a Companion break these rules there are a sanctions which are detailed on the joining page.
